    New song!...

     2006_0617OceanGrove0029

Robert and I were in the "studio" this weekend recording a new song.  By studio, I mean our computer room with a microphone set up in it.  Robert's dad had requested a song awhile back, and we thought it would be a good Father's Day gift to record us performing it.  It's about Hawaii, so it's a good song for the summertime.  The picture about was not taken in Hawaii, however.  It was taken in Ocean Grove, New Jersey a few years ago, but I thought it was appropriate.  It's one of our favorite places ever.

This song marks Robert's debut on the ukelele.  It's sans autoharp, but the ukelele sounds great with just vocals.  Enjoy!

    I'm back!

I feel like today is the first day of the rest of my life.  lol  I always feel like this when I get a nice long break from school.  I finished up my 10 week internship on Friday and now I get an entire month off!  I just finished a list of all the things I want to accomplish during this time.  I've become a very goal-oriented person over the last few years, so this list should be helpful.

Let's see, what has gone on in my world over the last 10 weeks?  Well, I am now a certified aqua aerobics instructor and I'm teaching classes at The Wellness Center in Johnson City and I'll soon be teaching at the pool at ETSU.  I was trying to think of a good summer job and the idea hit me when I was swimming laps.  I love being in the water, so why not try to get paid for it?  It's a ton of fun and a great workout!

I also stepped on a toothpick and got about a half an inch of it embedded into my foot.  Some friends of mine dug it out for me in a makeshift OR in their living room.  That was fun, let me tell you.  A tetanus shot was soon to follow.

I then developed this awful bronchitis thing that kept me coughing for 2-3 weeks.  I coughed so much that I sprained the muscles between my ribs and developed costochondritis.  I'm still hurting every time I take a breath and it's really affected how much I've been able to practice my horn.  It hurts so much to play, but I've had concerts and such so I've had to tough it out.  It was also pretty humorous to try to teach an aqua aerobics class when I had no voice nor could I breathe.

However, amidst all of the craziness I had the best internship ever.  I learned so much and my confidence level has really increased.  I got to focus mainly on the shoulder and spine and I feel pretty competent in treating these now.  I learned some great manual therapy techniques and was able to help a lot of people get better.

So now I have a month of bliss in which I'm going to catch up on life.  I can't wait!

So have you heard about the new book being published, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?  Or the movie Pride and Predator?  (You should really listen to the audio clip.  It's pretty hilarious, actually).  I think this is what happens in an oversaturated Jane Austen spin-off world.  I've read my fair share of them, but this is an entirely different ball game.  What would Jane herself think?  I would like to imagine that she, like Elizabeth Bennet, enjoys all the little absurtities of human nature and would merely laugh it off during an animated chat with Charlotte Lucas about the whole ordeal.  Honestly, I want to be first in line to see that movie.  I hope it's like Cloverfield meets Persuasion.

In other news, life is pretty good right now.  I'm playing in several upcoming concerts.  My clinical rotation is going well and I'm learning tons.  I'm also getting certified this weekend to instruct water aerobics!  I'm really excited about this.  I'll start teaching my own class at the gym at ETSU later this spring.  Fun stuff!  I'll provide more info about it later, in case you're interested.

I've also been completely consumed the past few weeks watching the first two seasons of Friday Night Lights.  I have even been trying to wake up by 5:00am so that I can get an episode in before I leave for the clinic.  I'm addicted, and I don't even like football that much.  It's a good thing I never tried drugs, because if tv can get me this hooked, there's no telling what I'd be jonesin' for.
